Ingredients:

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, frozen and cubed
  • 1 cup cold buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until perfectly combined.
  2. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour. Use a pastry cutter to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea sized chunks remaining.
  3. Pour in the cold buttermilk. Stir gently with a spatula just until the flour is moistened. Note: The dough should remain shaggy and slightly sticky.
  4. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Gently pat into a rectangle.
  5. Fold the dough in half, rotate, and pat down again. Repeat this folding process 5-6 times to create layers.
  6. Pat the dough to a 1 inch thickness.
  7. Press a biscuit cutter straight down without twisting to cut out your Buttermilk Biscuits.
  8. Place biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Brush the tops with melted butter immediately after removing from the oven.
