Ingredients:
- 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter, frozen and cubed
- 1 cup cold buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until perfectly combined.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour. Use a pastry cutter to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea sized chunks remaining.
- Pour in the cold buttermilk. Stir gently with a spatula just until the flour is moistened. Note: The dough should remain shaggy and slightly sticky.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Gently pat into a rectangle.
- Fold the dough in half, rotate, and pat down again. Repeat this folding process 5-6 times to create layers.
- Pat the dough to a 1 inch thickness.
- Press a biscuit cutter straight down without twisting to cut out your Buttermilk Biscuits.
- Place biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush the tops with melted butter immediately after removing from the oven.
